The Clinical Programmer is a key contributor within the data management team at Smith + Nephew's global franchises. Reporting directly to the Manager, Programming and Infrastructure, this role focuses on building, customizing, and maintaining the Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems. The Clinical Programmer ensures that the EDC platform meets the specifications of clinical trials, enabling effective data collection, validation, and reporting. In collaboration with Clinical Data Managers, the Clinical Programmer plays a pivotal role in translating data management plans into actionable EDC solutions. The ideal candidate will combine technical proficiency with an appreciation of clinical trial data management processes.

This position is a P2 level

What will you be doing?

  • Design, build, and test EDC systems, primarily Medidata Rave EDC, in line with study protocols and data management plans.

  • Develop, deploys and maintains study data collection applications such as eCOA, collaborating with other teams to ensure that the software solution captures the necessary datapoints according to the study specifications.

  • Implements monitoring technology solutions such as Targeted SDV.

  • Partner with Clinical Data Managers to decipher study requirements and convert them into EDC functionalities.

  • Regularly maintain and update the EDC system, ensuring its peak performance throughout the trial phase.

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to pinpoint and execute necessary customizations or adjustments to the EDC.

  • Facilitate the integration of the EDC with other systems and platforms.

  • Support the data validation process by ensuring accurate and efficient data capture.

  • Develop and upkeep documentation relating to EDC build and modifications.

  • Ensure EDC systems comply with pertinent regulatory and guideline standards.

  • Stay informed on current EDC functionalities, updates, and industry best practices.

  • Resolve any technical issues tied to the EDC system, escalating when needed.

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical domain. -A foundational understanding of data analytics or clinical research is a bonus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in programming, including prior hands-on experience with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) platforms; experience with Medidata Rave EDC or Veeva Vault is strongly preferred.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Robust technical capabilities in programming and system architecture, including Rave Architect.

  • A comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of clinical trial processes and data management standards.

  • Exceptional problem-solving acumen.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated capacity to juggle numerous projects and tasks concurrently.

  • A history of successfully adhering to strict deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Broad experience in clinical or statistical programming languages, including one or more of JavaScript, SQL, SAS, C#, R, VB, or Python.

  • Experience with or a keen interest in business intelligence tools such as PowerBI.

  • A foundational understanding or exposure to CDISC, STDM, ADaM standards.

  • Self-motivated to stay up to date on the latest in EDC systems and clinical programming.
