  This is a full-time position to work Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm in our Heredia Site located in Zona Franca Metropolitana.   Main Purpose of Job:  Under the direction of the Engineering Director or designated Manager and according to the categories outlined along this document, our Molding Engineer Senior 1 are responsible for actively supporting the development, transfer and validation of extrusion and/or injection molding manufacturing processes so that they are properly and timely conducted per Viant’s procedures and customer requirements. By working closely with different value stream teams (VSTs), customers and development groups, contributes to the strategic planning process of the corresponding area and to the implementation of other key plastics processing projects including capacity increase, new technologies identification and implementation, etc. The ME is also required to provide technical support to the quoting process of new projects (i.e. estimation of cycle times, equipment investment, etc.)He/she is also responsible for the identification and implementation of solutions (i.e. procedures, tools, tooling, fixtures, etc.) that are needed to run plastics processing equipment and manufacturing lines so that quality and productivity indicators are met and continuously improved. The role interacts actively with Program Managers, Value Stream Managers, Production personnel, Quality Assurance personnel, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Facilities and other support functions not only within this manufacturing site but with others as well as with customers and equipment vendors. To supply technical support to the injection molding and extrusion manufacturing areas.   Main Job Duties/Responsibilities •    Support, promote and enforce safety across the campus. Support and promote the overall EHS initiatives and programs.  •    Follow all GMPs and SOPs as defined by Viant’s policies, practices and procedures to ensure that FDA and ISO regulations along with Viant quality standards are met.•    Prepare and present reports on accomplished tasks. Perform applicable recommendations based on those reports. •    All duties listed for category 1, 2 and 3.•    Plan, develop, implement and coordinate new extrusion or molding development activities as well as changes to existing manufacturing processes in the molding or extrusion areas.•    Prepare or review project scheduling, timing, budgeting and unit cost estimations for new and/or current plastics processing related projects. •    Define validation strategies and lead engineering teams for the execution of validation plans for assigned projects. Review validation protocols and reports for categories 1, 2 and 3.•    Provide estimates and timing for the procurement of capital equipment for further review by the corresponding approvers following the company policies.•    Prepare and manage the budget for molding and extrusion projects. •    Specify and select equipment, molds and materials for new molding processes, existing processes, or existing process changes ensuring part designs can be injection molded economically and reliably.•    Specify, install and develop plastics processing processes, equipment and/or support equipment for new product development, existing manufacturing process changes, replication or scale-up.•    Coordinate with the appropriate departments and/or outside vendors the installation of equipment and processes by effectively analyzing required resources.•    Coordinate molding or extrusion projects and act as team leader for all assigned project activities within the molding or extrusion areas, managing activities between departments.•    Lead engineering teams, might have personnel reporting directly to him/her (i.e. Engineering Interns, Assistants, Technicians, etc.).•    Act as a quality system internal and external auditor.•    Customer service: Handle customer inquiries regarding their project status. Provide assembly timing and cost estimations for RFQs.•    Perform other duties, tasks, or projects at the direction of immediate supervisor and not limited to the job category. Knowledge / Education •    Minimum education required to perform duties: Bachelor degree in Engineering (i.e. Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or science related engineering discipline, etc.)•    Proficient in Microsoft Office.•    Bilingual English/Spanish - Advanced English level (written and spoken), technical writing and capable of leading presentations.•    Knowledge of the injection molding or extrusion processes.•    Knowledge of the scientific molding/extrusion theory and procedures (applicable certification by recognized institute or entity).•    Knowledge of applicable regulations for the medical device industry (FDA, ISO, etc.)•    Formal knowledge of CAD/CAM software (AutoCad, SolidWorks and MasterCam). Either applicable certification by recognized institute or entity, or internal training provided by Viant.•    Knowledge of statistical techniques (DOE, SPC, Six Sigma, etc.). Sampling Plans, Hypothesis Test, Statistical Process Control {SPC}, Process Capability Studies, Design of Experiments {DOE}).•    Knowledge of Six Sigma Methodology (green belt certification) and Lean Manufacturing.•    Knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).•    Proficiency in the use of MS Project.•    Knowledge of Minitab statistical software. Job Experience  •    From 4 to 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.•    At least 3 years of experience in extrusion and/or injection molding. •    Experience within the medical device manufacturing or pharmaceutical fields, or any other highly regulated industry (i.e. food, aerospace, etc.) is a plus.   Skills / Competencies  •    Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate orally and in writing.•    Self-motivated. •    Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.•    Must be able to read and understand specifications. Proficient in the interpretation of technical drawings.•    Must be able to work and effectively communicate with others.•    Highest ethical standards and professional integrity. •    Able to work independently.•    Teamwork oriented.•    Decision making: Must be able to quickly and independently make decisions.•    All skills and competencies listed for categories 1, 2 and 3.•    Capable of designing fixtures and line specific tooling (creating 3D models and technical drawings).•    Proficiency in at least one manufacturing technical field (i.e. sonic welding, pad printing, software validation, etc.) acquired through either formal training and/or work experience.•    Problem Solving: Must be able to formulate and implement mitigations or corrective actions for identified root causes.•    Decision making: Capable of making higher risk decisions within specific value streams.   Physical / Licenses Requirements: •    Moderate amounts of bending and twisting.•    Lifting 50 lb.•    Passport required.•    Able to travel inside and outside the country.•    Fit to walk between buildings of the Viant campus.
