Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for leading, implementing, and overseeing the property’s Occupational Health & Safety system, ensuring compliance with Costa Rica regulations and Marriott International standards.

This role drives structured risk management, promotes a preventive safety culture aligned with Gold Standards, and partners with operations to ensure safe working environments in an ultra-luxury setting.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure proper implementation of the Occupational Health & Safety system, including Office and Committee.
  • Oversee compliance with legal requirements and corporate standards.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory entities (INS, CCSS) and ensure documentation and traceability.

Risk Management

  • Develop and manage the risk assessment matrix.
  • Conduct inspections, track corrective actions, and lead incident investigations.
  • Promote proactive prevention through trend analysis and near-miss tracking.

Contractor Safety

  • Implement contractor safety processes, including qualification, induction, and on-site supervision.
  • Manage high-risk work permits.

Prevention Programs

  • Oversee key programs: PPE, ergonomics, hazardous materials (GHS), and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure safe practices are consistently applied in operations.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Support and advise Loss Prevention in emergency planning, drills, and readiness.

Culture & Training

  • Design and deliver safety training programs.
  • Integrate safety into daily operations and leadership practices.
  • Promote engagement and safety awareness initiatives.

Control & Reporting

  • Manage KPIs, reporting, and follow-up of action plans.
  • Analyze data to support continuous improvement.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • University degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Costa Rica regulations and risk management practices.
  • Valid driver’s license (B1).
  • Intermediate–advanced English.

 

Professional Registration: Eligibility for incorporation into the relevant professional association. Active registration will be required when technical validation or official signature is part of the role, in accordance with Costa Rica regulations.
