Safety Manager
Location: Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Our client, a leading manufacturing company located in Liberia, Costa Rica, is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead the site's Occupational Health and Safety strategy. This position is ideal for a hands-on professional with proven experience in manufacturing environments who is passionate about developing a strong safety culture and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve the site's Occupational Health and Safety Management System in compliance with ISO 45001, corporate standards, and local regulations.
  • Develop and execute the annual Occupational Health and Safety Plan.
  • Conduct and update risk assessments and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate safety requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations, injury and illness prevention initiatives, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Develop and monitor safety KPIs, analyze trends, and implement improvement strategies.
  • Lead internal audits and ensure readiness for external audits.
  • Manage the site's safety budget and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Provide safety training and coaching for employees, contractors, and leaders across the organization.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by partnering with plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee fire prevention, contractor safety, machinery safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and other critical safety programs.
  • Lead and develop a team of safety professionals.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of Occupational Health and Safety experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous leadership experience managing technical or safety teams.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience with risk assessments, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, contractor management, fire protection, machinery safety, confined spaces, work at heights, and incident investigations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
