Senior Google Cloud Engineer

Role: Sr Google Cloud Engineer
Position Type: Full-Time Contract (40hrs/week)
Contract Duration: 12 months+
Work Schedule: 8 hours/day (Mon-Fri)
Work Hours: EST
Location: 100% Remote (Candidates can work from anywhere in Costa Rica)

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the existing platform engineering team to design, implement, and maintain Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure.
• Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices.
• Implement and manage GCP services including VPC, IAM, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, and Cloud Load Balancing , as applicable.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure provisioning and application deployments.
• Implement cloud security best practices, including IAM, service accounts, secrets management, network security, and least-privilege access.
• Monitor platform performance, availability, reliability, and cost; troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment issues.
• Contribute to cloud architecture, operational standards, automation, and platform documentation.
• Work closely with application, DevOps, security, and platform teams to deliver scalable and reliable cloud solutions.

Required Skills

• 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering, with strong hands-on GCP experience.
• Strong proficiency in Terraform , reusable modules, remote state, and environment-specific infrastructure management.
• Experience with GCP networking, IAM, security, monitoring, and logging.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
• Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes (GKE), and container-based application deployments.
• Proficiency in scripting using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to multi-task and context switch representing the platform team to its internal customers and stakeholders

Preferred Skills

• Experience with GCP organization, folders, projects, and multi-environment governance.
• Familiarity with cloud security posture management, policy enforcement, and cost optimization.
• Experience working within an established enterprise platform team and following existing engineering standards.
