Job Description
The Municipality of Turrubares needs a PCRV with a degree in social work or related field, three or more years of relevant experience, such as in organizational development/capacity building, social work for youth, or experience serving youth organizations, and an intermediate-high level of Spanish to support these initiatives and contribute to the design and implement of new strategies and methodologies to provide guidance and training for community members.
The Volunteer will design and implement activities that promote the development of policies and social programs to prevent violence and illegal substance use. Also, the Volunteer will design and implement recreational and cultural activities to facilitate integration and emergence of positive leaderships and support prevention actions for healthy coexistence.
REQUEST:
A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (hereafter, Volunteer) is requested to support the municipality of Turrubares in designing and implementing a strategy to promote youth activities aimed at preventing drug use and violence in the community. In conjunction with the Municipality staff, the Volunteer will develop a plan to implement non-formal educational activities for the youth on healthy and peaceful lifestyles and help prevent violence and the consumption of illegal or unhealthy substances.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All activities are conducted in close coordination with the Volunteer’s counterpart to ensure they are ready to take full ownership of the processes and products.
Activities may include, but are not limited, to those listed below.
ACTIVITIES:
• Prepare a social community assessment to determine strengths and needs of the population of Turrubares.
• Design a thorough action plan that addresses social challenges identified in the diagnosis.
• Develop activities and resources to address priority issues on violence prevention for the population of Turrubares.
• Propose and implement interactive leisure activities to help the youth stay away from substance use and develop social skills.
• Design and facilitate workshops on violence prevention, conflict resolution, culture of peace and emotional intelligence.
• Document processes and progress of the work carried out with stakeholders in the region.
• Present written reports of each of the completed projects. The reports must include details of the benefited population, achievements, limitations and recommendations.
Required Skills
• BA/BS in Social Work, Sociology or relevant field.
• 3 or more years of relevant experience, such as in organizational development/capacity building, social work for youth, or experience serving youth organizations.
